Considering Starters are a very important part of the whole Integrated Roof System it is very important that it is of great quality and that the self adhesive strip will activate in the heat and seal the bottom of the shingles in the first coarse. MOST ROOFING COMPANIES UNFORTUNATELY STICK TO OLD STANDARDS, FLIPPING A SHINGLE UPSIDE DOWN, this is NOT approved and will void the manufacturers shingle warranty and especially the wind warranty as the strip of tar on a shingle whether it's right side up or upside down is in the middle, roughly 6 inches up from the bottom when in fact it should be within an inch. If wind were to blow and catch beneath the shingle it would in turn tear it up because it's not sealed at the bottom, only in the middle. And that using a shingle upside down or rightside up is NOT a substitute for proper starter strips, so do yourself a favour, make sure your roofer uses ABP Shingle Starter Strip and nothing less. Starters MUST be installed not only on eaves, but also on gables to stop driving rain from penetrating the roofs edge and valleys as well giving the valley a complete seal and sealing the shingle down to the starter and with the peel n stick of the ABP's Shingle Starter Strip creating a water tight seal to the valley itself allowing NO water at all from getting into your home creating mold, wet insulation, increasing utility bills because your insulation is no longer doing it's job as it's no longer fluffy but compact allowing air to get in and out along with many other problems.
